The Northeastern Indiana Trout Association was successfully stocked brown trout around Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area on May 11,2013. We appreciate for all volunteers who helped with this great tradition and stay tune for additional details and photos of the event.

2012 NEITA FISHERMAN'S SURVEY

Since 1945 the Northeastern Indiana Trout Association has strived to make Indiana a trout fishing destination. Our river and inland lake Brown Trout stocking and Youth Fishing programs continue. INDIANA TROUT BY WILLIAM LAVIGNE

This story begins in December with the arrival of Rainbow Trout eggs at a couple of well looked after hatcheries and involves numerous man-hours, more than a few miles of road time and lots of fish food. Fifteen months later the Rainbows are stocked and ready for you to catch.
Here’s how it goes. Each year, around the middle of December, one hundred thousand eyed eggs (i.e. fertilized) are received at the Fawn River Hatchery. The usefulness of the London Strain brood stock of Rainbow Trout was nearing its end. This prompted the IDNR’s decision to switch to purchasing eyed eggs as opposed to the extra expense and hassle of re-establishing and maintaining a new brood stock. »»»read more ...
